Kristie Hawkins has been named interim head softball coach. Hawkins served as an assistant coach for the Orediggers during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Hannah Davey-Briggs�’06 (cross country, track & field), Chad Friehauf ‘05 (football) and the 2004 football team were inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in October. Davey-Briggs was the 2004 national champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Friehauf won the Harlon Hill Trophy in 2004, which goes to the best player in NCAA Division II football. The 2004 football team achieved a 12-1 record, winning the RMAC Championship and becoming the first-ever Mines football team to qualify for NCAA playoffs.

Mines quarterback Clay Garcia was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions in September. Garcia, who has qualified for the dean’s list during every semester of his collegiate career, is a Boettcher Scholar.

Kevin Fickes was hired as the new women’s soccer coach in July. Fickes served as an assistant to men’s soccer coach Frank Kohlenstein from 1998-2006. The Oredigger women concluded the 2009 season ranked #7 in the NCAA Division II.

Volleyball’s Elizabeth Serra-Hsu, a pre-season All-RMAC selection in 2010, was named to the Oredigger Volleyball Classic, and Angelo State Invitational all-tournament teams in September. Jackie Stabell also earned recognition on the Angelo State Invitational all-tournament team. The Orediggers landed back-to-back-toback RMAC Players of the Week (Holly Hutchison, Hannah Margheim and Amanda Massey) midway through the 2010 season.

Former Mines baseball player Marshall Schuler�’10 was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in June of 2010. In addition, the Orediggers’�Cory Ast signed a free-agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles last summer.

The men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both earned Scholar All-American recognition for the 2009-10 school year. Individually, Jesse Dennis, Angel Forsling and Sarah Moore garnered Scholar All- American accolades while Brian Coates and Aaron Miller were selected as Honorable Mention Scholar All- Americans.
