Oliver Dewey, a senior majoring in biochemical engineering, has been on the staff of Mines magazine since his freshman year. On Saturday, June 25, he travels to South Africa with the McBride Honors Program. He has kindly agreed to blog about his trip here on the Mines magazine website, sharing his impressions, photos and humor. We hope you enjoy following along.
Hi Oliver, I am so proud of you and your wonderful opportunity that will take you to South Africa. What a great adventurer you turned out to be! When I was about your age I had the fortune of getting to know a few South Africans living away from their country avoiding the mandatory draft during those horrible apartheid years. Such a different world now. Be fearless and absorb everything you can. Listen to your mom, don’t bring Deb an elephant. A giraffe is much more practical anyway.
Have Fun and blog often! Everyone at home and Olin Chlor Alkali are looking forward to your advetures!
Love Mom
ps..Don’t bring Deb an Elephant….I seem to be catching her animal aquisition disease….
Hi Oliver, I will try to keep your mom sane while you are there. Any chance of shipping me back an elephant to add to my animal menagerie???? Be Safe and Have fun! Deb
PS At least kiss some animals for me while you are there!
