Halloween can be a difficult time for those with type 1 diabetes, but thanks to co-hosts Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, local families affected by the disease were able to celebrate together on October 30 at the organizations’ annual party.

The diabetes-friendly event took place in the Green Center on the Mines campus, where children were treated to the balloon art of Paty Fox from Whimsy Entertainment, decorated pumpkins that were donated by Judy and Bob Villano, and enjoyed pizza and sugar-free drinks. They played games and made their way through a Halloween maze set up by students from the Mines fraternity. Julie Morehouse of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation says Judy and Charlie McNeil ’71 and Lori and Larry Finch handled all of the party preparation.

“There were a few happy tears from Christine Evans,” says Morehouse, who says the Evanses are one of several families who have moved to Denver to be closer to the Barbara Davis Center and better treatment options.
